Itheko has tragically lost one of its founding members.

Nezaam Isaacs passed away on Tuesday, 6 June after being hit by a car in Belvedere Road, Rondebosch while out on an early morning run.

Nezaam’s running history is Itheko’s history as he was one of the first people to join the fledgling club. Officially, he was the third member to join the club as he sought make a lifestyle change. Running quite literally changed his life, as he went from being 138kg to a lean running machine in the 10 years since making the decision to start running.

He started off on the eight-week programme and then progressed to complete events in the 10km, 15km, half-marathon, marathon and ultra-marathon distances, including the Two Oceans and Comrades events.

In recent years, though, Nezaam turned his focus to trail running where he showed a great affinity for being out on the trails. He’d often organise group runs on the trails within the city and was more than happy to give advice on any and all aspects of running.

Nezaam wrote his own story of determination, setting goals and reaching it one step at a time.

May he rest in peace.
